6 & 6 Mandatory Driver Education
In Saskatchewan, in order to obtain a class 5 licence, you must undergo driver education either in high school or with a private instructor. This entails completing six (6) hours of training both in the car and in the classroom with an instructor certified by SGI.
Without this training you aren't eligible for a higher Class of Licence.
After successfully completing the training, the instructor will provide you with a certificate of completion. With this certificate in hand, you can then visit an SGI issuer to book your class 5 road test. This test is the final step in obtaining your class 5 licence, allowing you to drive independently on the roads of Saskatchewan.
In Saskatchewan, obtaining a Class 5 driver's license is a crucial step toward gaining the freedom and responsibility of driving. To ensure that new drivers are well-prepared for this responsibility, the province requires comprehensive driver education. This education can be pursued either through programs offered in high schools or with private driving instructors.
The driver education program involves a total of twelve (12) hours of instruction, evenly split between practical and theoretical learning. Specifically, you must complete six (6) hours of behind-the-wheel training, where you will gain hands-on experience driving under the guidance of a certified instructor. These sessions are designed to build your driving skills, boost your confidence, and help you navigate various road conditions safely.
In addition to the practical training, you must also complete six (6) hours of classroom instruction. During these sessions, you'll learn the rules of the road, safe driving practices, and important defensive driving techniques. This theoretical knowledge is crucial for understanding the principles that will keep you and others safe on the road.
Both the in-car and classroom components must be conducted by an instructor who is certified by SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance). This certification ensures that you are receiving high-quality education from professionals who meet the province's standards for driver training.
By completing this driver education program, you'll be well-equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to pass your driving test and become a responsible, confident driver on Saskatchewan's roads.
